Raising our children in a multi-racial and multi-cultural family, I find it important to celebrate diversity. I like introducing books to my children that reflect a multi-racial and diverse environment, just like the one we live in in the heart of NYC. I also find it important to select books by diverse authors and illustrators.

The following ten books are great books to read together as a family. Suitable for families from all different walks of life and cultural backgrounds.

1.     Love Around The World by Fleur Pierets

2.     It’s Okay To Be Difference by Todd Parr

3.     Sesame Street’s We’re Different, We’re The Same by Bobbi Kates

4.     The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson

5.     Parker Looks Up: An Extraordinary Moment by Jessica Curry

6.     Black Is a Rainbow Color by Angela Joy

7.     I Am Enough by Grace Byers

8.     The Proudest Blue: A Story of Hijab and Family by Ibtihaj Muhammad

9.     Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed A Neighborhood by Rachel López

10.  Pink Is For Boys by Robb Pearlman
